Our journey to Thrive and why this place is here

Thrive began with our shared desire to create a home where honesty, connection, and wholeness can flourish.

Tom’s path through recovery and Cecilia’s own inner journey taught us that real change happens when people gather in truth, listen deeply, and support one another without judgment.

Sobriety here means more than avoiding substances—it’s meeting yourself fully, releasing what holds you back, and opening your heart to new possibilities.

Thrive is more than a sober living home. It’s a welcoming space where personal stories of resilience and growth are honored, and transformation becomes part of everyday life.

Tom’s Story

Hi, I’m Tom. For the past eight years, sober living hasn’t just been my work — it’s been my home. I first entered a sober living house as a resident myself, learning firsthand what it takes to rebuild a life from the inside out. Not long after, I began managing and mentoring in a men’s sober-living community, where I’ve spent the last seven years living alongside the men I support.

I also hold a license in chemical dependency counseling, and I’ve worked inside treatment centers, which taught me a lot about clinical care. But my heart belongs here, in the day-to-day of sober living — in the kitchens, living rooms, and walks around the neighborhood — where real growth and connection happen.

Thrive is a passion project between Cecilia and me. We built it with love, care, and a belief that a sober house can be more than a place to stay clean. It can be a place to wake up to your life, to learn new ways of living, and to be met with honesty and respect. That’s the kind of home we’re creating. I’m honored you’re here reading this, and if our paths cross, my hope is that you feel welcomed, supported, and seen.

Thanks for taking the time to be here,
Tom

Cecilia’s Story

I grew up deeply connected to the unseen — sensing energy, feeling the presence of spirit, and finding peace in nature. For a long time, I carried a bright inner light that made me feel whole and alive. But as I moved into adulthood, that light slowly dimmed. I lost myself in trying to please others, in perfectionism, and in a long relationship where I stopped trusting my intuition. Eventually, I woke up one morning feeling like a shell of myself — afraid, anxious, and disconnected. That was my awakening.

One ordinary morning, while pouring a cup of coffee in the kitchen, something shifted inside me.

It’s hard to explain — just a quiet, unmistakable sense that life had opened in a new way.

From that moment, I began to see myself, and the world, with more clarity and compassion.

That simple turning point continues to guide me: a reminder that change can arrive in the smallest moments, and that healing often begins when we least expect it.

Through affirmations, energy work, and the guidance of wise teachers and community, I began to rebuild from the inside out. I discovered that the light I thought I had lost had never left me — it was simply waiting to be remembered.

Today, I walk through the world with more ease and grace. My daily practice of grounding and affirmation keeps me rooted in truth, compassion, and peace. At Thrive, I hold space for others who are ready to rediscover their own light — especially those who feel stuck, afraid, or alone.

My hope is that every person who walks through our doors begins to feel what I did:

that healing is possible,

that love is already within you,

and that coming home to yourself is the most powerful journey of all.

I look forward to meeting you,
Cecilia

🌱 Common Questions About Thrive

💡 What makes Thrive different from other sober living homes?

Thrive is lovingly tended by its two founders, Cecilia Thelin and Tom Mitchell, whose calm presence sets the tone for the home.

Together they create an atmosphere that is relaxed, welcoming, and easy to be around—a place where conversations flow naturally at the kitchen table and residents feel truly heard.

Cecilia brings a gentle wisdom shaped by being the mother of three and by years of walking alongside people in recovery. Residents often describe how effortless it feels to talk with her, trusting her with their stories and staying connected long after they move on.

Tom adds his own depth as a person in long-term recovery, offering perspective and steady guidance.

He knows firsthand how valuable it is for residents to experience a balanced environment—one that includes a strong, compassionate female presence alongside steady male support.

Both Cecilia and Tom have seen how substance use touches families and communities.

Creating Thrive was a natural step for them: a way to combine their experience and resources to offer a single, carefully nurtured home where sobriety is the foundation and wholeness is the goal.

💰 What is the cost and what does it include?

The monthly fee is $1,200 per resident.

This covers your private or shared bedroom, all utilities (electric, water, internet), household supplies, and a fully furnished home with shared kitchen and living areas.

It also includes weekly house gatherings, optional practice groups, and twice-weekly supportive check-ins with Tom or Cecilia.

There are no extra program fees—everything you need to feel at home and supported in your recovery is included.

⏰ What is the daily/weekly schedule like?

🌅 Morning Quiet (7–9 a.m.)

Begin the day with space for meditation, reflection, or simply a calm start. Optional, but always available.

🌿 Daytime Flow

Time for work, school, or personal projects. Residents come and go freely while staying connected to the house.

🤝 Weekly House Gathering

One evening each week we circle up as a group — sharing, listening, and supporting one another in honest conversation. No lectures, no fixing - just real connection.

🧘 Weekly Practice Group

Rotating gatherings that invite real connection:

• Communication for Connection Group — practicing honest dialogue and deep listening.

• All Parts Welcome Group — a circle where every part of you is invited to be heard.

• Grounding into Presence Group — slowing down together to return to calm and clarity.

💬 One-on-One Check-Ins

Short, twice-weekly conversations to reflect on your journey and share what you need.

❤️ What happens if I relapse?

If a relapse happens, our first priority is your safety and support.

You’ll take a brief stay at a local detox or stabilization program so you can rest and regain balance.

Once you’re cleared, you’re welcome to return to Thrive, and we simply call it a slip.

If a second slip occurs, we’ll talk together about a stronger reset—often a short residential program—to help you get back on solid ground.

After that, you’re always welcome back.

Relapse is never about shame—it’s a moment to receive care and begin again.

📅 Is there a minimum or maximum length of stay?

We ask for an initial three-month commitment so you have time to settle in and build a solid foundation for recovery.

This minimum also helps keep the house stable, so it doesn’t feel like people are constantly checking in and out.

After those first three months, you’re welcome to stay as long as Thrive continues to support your growth and you remain engaged in the community.

Some residents stay a few months, others a year or more—there’s no set maximum as long as the fit feels right for everyone.
