🌱 Our journey to Thrive and why this place is here

Thrive began as a simple hope—to create a home where honesty, connection, and real growth could take root.

Through our own paths of recovery and self-discovery, we learned that people don’t heal by being managed or corrected. They heal in spaces where they’re met with respect, curiosity, and truth.

Here, sobriety is a beginning, not an endpoint. It’s about becoming more whole—learning to stay with yourself through discomfort, to listen deeply, and to rediscover what’s already steady inside.

We call it Thrive, because beneath every part of you that’s struggled, there’s something already whole—and we help it find its way back to life.

Guiding Principles

A few small shifts can open a whole new chapter.
This is where life starts to turn

Honesty

I’m learning to say what’s real - first with myself.

Openness

I loosen my grip on certainty so life can show me something new.

Authentic Connection

I let people in — a little at a time — so I don’t have to do this alone.

The Heart Behind Thrive

Tom’s Story

Hi, I’m Tom. For the past eight years, sober living hasn’t just been my work — it’s been my home. I first entered a sober living house as a resident myself, learning firsthand what it takes to rebuild a life from the inside out. Not long after, I began managing and mentoring in a men’s sober-living community, where I’ve spent the last seven years living alongside the men I support.

I also hold a license in chemical dependency counseling, and I’ve worked inside treatment centers, which taught me a lot about clinical care. But my heart belongs here, in the day-to-day of sober living — in the kitchens, living rooms, and walks around the neighborhood — where real growth and connection happen.

Thrive is a passion project between Cecilia and me. We built it with love, care, and a belief that a sober house can be more than a place to stay clean. It can be a place to wake up to your life, to learn new ways of living, and to be met with honesty and respect. That’s the kind of home we’re creating. I’m honored you’re here reading this, and if our paths cross, my hope is that you feel welcomed, supported, and seen.

Thanks for taking the time to be here,
Tom

Cecilia’s Story

I’ve been through seasons where I completely lost myself — times when I didn’t recognize the person I’d become, when life felt smaller and heavier than I ever expected it to. Finding my way back wasn’t quick or pretty. It came through honesty, through breaking old patterns, and through people who didn’t give up on me when I had.

Over the years, I’ve learned that real change doesn’t come from fixing yourself — it comes from learning how to tell the truth about where you are, and being met there with compassion. That’s what began to bring me back to life.

Along the way, I’ve also walked beside people fighting their own battles — people rebuilding trust, repairing relationships, and learning how to live in a way that’s real and sustainable. I’ve seen what it takes to keep showing up when things get hard, and I’ve seen the strength that starts to grow when someone is given the space to be honest without judgment.

My heart is in this work because I know what it’s like to feel lost and unsure if you’ll ever feel whole again — and I also know what it looks like when someone finds their footing and begins to rebuild.

At Thrive, I help create that kind of space: steady, human, and real. A place where people can lay down the act, be seen for who they are, and start building a life rooted in truth and self-respect.

What I’ve seen again and again is that it’s never too late to come back to yourself.

Change is real.

Growth is possible.

And no one is beyond repair.

Warmly,

Cecilia

🌱 Common Questions About Thrive

💡 What makes Thrive different from other sober living homes?

Thrive is more than a house — it’s a home that’s lived in, not managed from a distance.

Tom Mitchell and Cecilia Thelin created Thrive to be a place where recovery feels real, relational, and steady.

Tom lives in the house with the men, sharing the same spaces and rhythms of daily life. His steady presence — born from years in long-term recovery and seven years of living alongside residents — gives the home a grounded calm that can’t be manufactured. Instead of managing from afar, Tom walks beside the guys, modeling what stability and honesty look like in everyday moments.

Cecilia brings her own steady warmth and perspective, shaped by years of supporting people in recovery and by being a mother of three. Residents often say that talking with her feels easy — like being heard without being fixed.

Together, they tend to Thrive with care and intention, creating an environment that feels safe, real, and quietly transformative. Here, sobriety isn’t just about abstaining — it’s about growing into wholeness, one shared meal and conversation at a time.

💰 What is the cost and what does it include?

The monthly fee is $1,200 per resident.

This covers your private or shared bedroom, all utilities (electric, water, internet), household supplies, and a fully furnished home with shared kitchen and living areas.

It also includes weekly house gatherings, optional practice groups, and twice-weekly supportive check-ins with Tom or Cecilia.

There are no extra program fees—everything you need to feel at home and supported in your recovery is included.

⏰ What is the daily/weekly schedule like?

🌅 Morning Quiet (7–9 a.m.)

Begin the day with space for meditation, reflection, or simply a calm start. Optional, but always available.

🌿 Daytime Flow

Time for work, school, or personal projects. Residents come and go freely while staying connected to the house.

🤝 Weekly House Gathering

One evening each week we circle up as a group — sharing, listening, and supporting one another in honest conversation. No lectures, no fixing - just real connection.

🧘 Weekly Practice Group

Rotating gatherings that invite real connection:

• Communication for Connection Group — practicing honest dialogue and deep listening.

• All Parts Welcome Group — a circle where every part of you is invited to be heard.

• Grounding into Presence Group — slowing down together to return to calm and clarity.

💬 One-on-One Check-Ins

Short, twice-weekly conversations to reflect on your journey and share what you need.

❤️ What happens if I relapse?

If a relapse happens, our first priority is your safety and support.

You’ll take a brief stay at a local detox or stabilization program so you can rest and regain balance.

Once you’re cleared, you’re welcome to return to Thrive, and we simply call it a slip.

If a second slip occurs, we’ll talk together about a stronger reset—often a short residential program—to help you get back on solid ground.

After that, you’re always welcome back.

Relapse is never about shame—it’s a moment to receive care and begin again.

📅 Is there a minimum or maximum length of stay?

We ask for an initial three-month commitment so you have time to settle in and build a solid foundation for recovery.

This minimum also helps keep the house stable, so it doesn’t feel like people are constantly checking in and out.

After those first three months, you’re welcome to stay as long as Thrive continues to support your growth and you remain engaged in the community.

Some residents stay a few months, others a year or more—there’s no set maximum as long as the fit feels right for everyone.
